NILLUMBIK TERM 4 2024 WEEK 1

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the first blog post of the term!

It was a hectic start to the term but we will be sending out a weekly blog posts to give parents and teachers an insight into our activities for the week!

On our first day we headed to the Nillumbik Youth Hub where we did some icebreaker games and got to know everyone a bit better! We also met Nate who works at the youth hub and he gave a short presentation about services within the youth hub and around Nillumbik that our open for young people. We completed some journal work, including introducing our values for the term, students created a few to display on the program, a few of these were respect, trust and teamwork! Following this we headed off to the Eltham Leisure Centre, meeting our instructor for the term Brad! The crew spent some time in the gym and also completed a swim test.

On day 2 we headed off to Sherbrooke forest and Belgrave where students participated in a short waterfall walk and tree surfing! Students were given a set of paint samples and were asked to find natural objects that best matched the colour on the card. We were super impressed with everyone's dedication to this task and the results they found. Declan, Coda and Harvey were our winners! After this we made our way to Belgrave Trees adventure where students grabbed their harnesses, watched a safety demonstration and then made their way onto their chosen course. Erin and Zarah took on the scary 10 metre drop, while others chose long ziplines and difficult obstacle courses.

On Friday we had a day at the Collingwood Alternative School, where students had some free time in the gym. We then started introducing character strengths and got students to take a quiz to find out what their top 5 character strengths were. Some that we found were love, kindness, humour and social intelligence. We then went through a goal setting worksheet and asked students to create 3 different goals to put towards school and what strategies they may use to achieve these. We will then follow up with students and refer to these goal sheets on Tuesdays! After a successful day in the classroom we finished the week with an intense game of bowling, Declan coming out on top in his first time playing!
