Yarra Term Week 3 2020

Wednesday was a busy day on the program as we picked everyone up and got stuck into our bike training session. During this session we cover the A B C D D E of bike safety and went over bike training techniques that the students can use to teach other students. We also had Nat learning (and accomplishing) how to ride a bike which was great to see! Once we were full of bike knowledge we drove to Collingwood Children's Farm to meet Toni and get stuck into volunteering our time. We pulled weeds, feed goats and explored the farm and what it offers.

Thursday started with a hustle as we went straight to the gym to meet with Andrew and get stuck into our session. For an hour everyone worked hard to lunge, jog, lift weights, stretch and of course sweat. After doing a range of exercises we said goodbye and drove to our floristry TAFE tester. We got to Fairfeild TAFE for the second time this term, meet Renee and got straight into the workshop. With her expertise and guidance everyone was able to arrange their flowers in a visually pleasing and unique way. We all walked away with a bit more flower knowledge and a bouquet of flowers in our hands.

Friday was a day focused on learning as we met with Nick from South Melbourne Surf Life Saving Club and got stuck into learning CPR. It was wonderful to see everyone get straight into the lesson and engage with the content that Nick had to offer. We learnt about what Surf Life Saving can look like/what they do, learnt/practiced CPR including DRS ABCD and then went into the water to learn water signals, practice paddling and do a mock rescue. Everyone gave 100% on this day and we all left feeling ready for our surf camp next week.
